About Social Justice Stewardship

Share the Plate One Sunday a month the collection is given in to a local, national or international non-profit organization.  Guest At Your Table (GAYT) This  program fosters understanding and awareness of Unitarian Universalist Service Committee's human rights work. By celebrating the GAYT in the congregation, we are nurturing a spirit of gratitude and “justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.”

The Rev. Carie Johnsen Social Justice Fund was established by the Board through the Maine Community Foundation to support the Social Justice Ministry of UUCC and to help the church live the values Carie encouraged. The fund started with a value of over $15,000.

The Social Justice Committee is active in growing the fund. It is now self-sustaining. As the funds grow, we will have the capacity to financially assist with more social justice work. The goal of the Social Justice Committee is to maintain $25,000 or more in the fund, with an annual award of $1,000.

Each year the Social Justice Committee chooses an organization to receive $1,000 from the Rev. Carie Johnsen Social Justice Fund. The Social Justice Committee will announce the recipient of the award each year in February; the award will be dispersed at the same time.

The first award of $1,000 was granted to the Maine Unitarian Universalist State Advocacy Network (MUUSAN) at Rev. Carie‘s farewell service on May 16,, 2021.
